What we’re about
Welcome to the Appalachian Mountain Club Delaware Valley Chapter (AMC-DV)!
AMC-DV is one of the Philadelphia region’s largest, oldest, and most active outdoor clubs, with 800+ outdoor-related activities each year (most are free!). Join us on one of our many events and trips in and around the Greater Philadelphia area, the Lehigh Valley, New Jersey, Delaware, and beyond. Activities and trips include hiking, paddling, backpacking, biking, trail maintenance, conservation, outdoor education, and more. All activities are led by trained and experienced leaders! Our chapter is part of the national Appalachian Mountain Club, which offers a wide range of trips on the East Coast and beyond.

Finding AMC Delaware Valley Activities
Not all AMC-DV activities are posted here on Meetup. To explore all DV activities for hiking, backpacking, biking, trail maintenance, and more, visit DV Monthly Activities. A Google calendar view of DV activities will display. Or, for more detailed listings, visit the AMC Outdoors Connector activities finder.
To find outdoors opportunities in NJ, NY, and New England, visit https://activities.outdoors.org/s/? to view all activities of all chapters.
What make our MeetUp activities different?
There are a lot of great MeetUp groups out there to choose from. A key thing that sets AMC-DV apart from some of them is that our activity leaders undergo training and are experienced outdoors people who volunteer their time and expertise. Their goal: to share fun, friendly and safe outdoors experiences. While safety is their primary concern, participants must also accept risk and responsibility for their own safety.

Valley Forge Tuesday Morning Hike
Valley Forge Artillery Park, East Inner Line Rd, Valley Forge, pa, USJoin us for some enjoyable exercise: an approximately 5–7 mile hike on trails in Valley Forge National Historical Park. The difficulty level will be moderate, with speeds around 3 to 3.5 mph in the easier sections, and lower in hilly and uneven sections (rocks, tree roots, etc.); total elevation gain will be around 700 – 1,200 feet. Trails on Mt. Misery and/or Mt. Joy will be included as well as flatter areas. We will stop periodically, especially at the tops of hills if some go up faster than others, so that we all continue on the same hike.
Meet in the Artillery Park parking lot, at the end near the restrooms. GPS coordinates: 40.0939, -75.4490
Bring water, clothing appropriate for the weather (layers work well), sturdy footwear (hiking shoes or boots work well), and a smile. Well-behaved dogs are welcome on a 6’ or shorter leash as required by the park.
If the hike is canceled, such as due to weather, we plan to announce this at least two hours in advance.
AMC is a non-profit organization and the hike leaders are volunteers. All participants will need to sign the AMC liability release agreement (click here to review it in advance). Children under age 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian, who will need to sign the agreement for them. Alternatively, you can register on the AMC website and sign the agreement in advance there. The AMC website also shows many other AMC events that might interest you.
AMC is an outdoor recreation and conservation organization that, among other things, helps maintain the hiking trails we use in Valley Forge and many other parks. Non-members are welcome on this hike, but membership is inexpensive and supports the great work AMC does (click here to learn more).

The hike ends around 11:30. After hiking, you will have plenty of time to walk around and see the speeches and special colonial-era activities and demonstrations in the Historic Village before the crossing. (actual crossing at 1 PM) River Crossings are contingent upon safe weather conditions for participants. However, even if conditions do not allow for crossing, guests can still participate in historic ceremonies, speeches, and commemorative colonial-era activities.
Inclement weather may cancel hike. If doubtful, check the status of the hike on www.amcdv.org and check the activity calendar or contact the leader.
Witness the Crossing that saved the Revolution
Each December, thousands of people gather on the banks of the Delaware River to watch the reenactment of George Washington’s daring 1776 Christmas night river crossing. During the event, several hundred reenactors in Continental military dress listen to an inspiring speech by General Washington and then row across the river in replica Durham boats. (from website: https://www.washingtoncrossingpark.org/cross-with-us/history/)
All participants will need to agree to and sign a paper AMC legal waver sheet just prior to the hike if you did not register online in the AMC Outdoor Connector.
Please note: In order to comply with Pennsylvania Youth Protection Laws, all children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by their parent or legal guardian. This policy applies for all events offered by the Delaware Valley Chapter as well as any other Chapter events within the state of Pennsylvania5 attendees
