What is the Pennsylvania Highlands Trail? The Highlands Trail in Pennsylvania is a connected trail network located in the 1.9 million-acre, 13 county Pennsylvania Highlands region. The 300-mile route spans across southeast Pennsylvania, from the Pennsylvania-Maryland border in Waynesboro to the Delaware River in Easton. The trail co-aligns with several other trails in the region, including rugged, natural surface trails, as well as paved multi-use pathways. Hikers may find themselves walking through dense forests with beautiful vistas, or through urban areas where shops and restaurants are just steps away. Find more information about the PA Highlands Trail on our website and check out our interactive map for more details on trail segments.

Difficulty: 4 - Moderate
Trip Leader(s): Patricia Woodruff, Lisa Lombardo
Registration Type: Show & Go
Please Click Here to RSVP: https://activities.outdoors.org/a5UVX000001LL2T
Audience: 20’s & 30’sDescription: Join us for a Halloween costume hike at Bucks County's Peace Valley (PV) Park. The park, which includes 1,500 acres of land, is located just outside of Doylestown, PA. Its centerpiece is Lake Galena, a 365-acre lake created by damming the north branch of the Neshaminy Creek.
Our hike will begin at the boat launch on Meyers Rd. Please arrive by 10:15am to put on your custom and be ready to roll at 10:30am. We will be doing a 6-mile loop along scenic Lake Galena via the hike/bike path.
This is a paved path which will make showing off Halloween costumes a breeze. At about the1/3 mark of our hike, we will see the PV Nature Center. We can enter the gate to the right of the Nature Center to access the bird blind, where we can quietly observe several types of birds and critters accessing the feeders in the fenced-in bird sanctuary. We will then complete our loop with lake views at all times.
This hike makes costumes easy because it is entirely flat. And although costumes are not required, it adds to the fun if you wear one. Plus, we will give out prizes to the top costumes. Consider that a challenge! Regardless of your outfit you should wear sturdy walking shoes and bring water and a snack.
Post-hike, we can head over to the New Britain Inn (NBI) for some food and bev: https://newbritaininn.com/menu/

Audience: 20’s & 30’sDescription: Join other 20s/30s for a flat, out & back hike with a twist! We'll hike at the John Heinz Wildlife Refuge, a hidden gem right next to the Philadelphia International Airport. This preserved land has been a sanctuary for plants and animals since it opened in 1972. As you hike, you will have many chances to see the rich diversity of fish, wildlife and native plants that the refuge supports.
This is a reschedule of a hike that was unfortunately postponed to rain. If you missed signing up the first time, now is your chance to get a spot on this one!
We will meet in front of the nature center and begin our hike from the parking lot. We'll hike along the eastern side of the wetlands loop, before hopping on the Tinicucm trail to complete the Darby Creek Loop. There are a few smaller branch trails we can explore as well. These will take us around the frog pond, to a wildlife viewing blind, and even to the wetlands boardwalk! The terrain is very flat, this is a good hike to bring binoculars on since there are always plenty of birds around the wetlands!Following the hike, we can grab a bite to eat at the iconic Penrose Diner, located about 10 minutes away on 2016 Penrose Ave, Philadelphia, Pa 19145.
Please meet in the parking lot at 9:45 a m so we can leave promptly at 10:00am .
The trails may be muddy after a rain, so wear sturdy walking shoes. Layer clothing according to the temperatures, and be prepared with a bottle of water. Poor weather conditions may cancel the hike, so check the trip posting before departing.
