What we’re about
IMPORTANT: We have retired the separate AMC Worcester Third Wednesday Meetup group. At this point it does not make sense to maintain 2 distinct Meetup groups, so if you are not already a part of our main AMC Worcester Meetup group, please join here now. All future Third Wednesday events will be posted here.
The Appalachian Mountain Club is America's oldest conservation and recreation organization. The AMC promotes the protection, enjoyment and stewardship of the mountains, forests, waters and trails of the Appalachian region. The mission of AMC Worcester is to encourage people to enjoy and appreciate the natural world because we believe that successful conservation depends on this experience.

See all- WILD EDIBLES: NIBBLING ON THE WILD LANDSCAPENorthborough Historical Society, Northborough, MA
Worcester County is home to over 80 species of edible wild plants, some of which are more nutritious and/or flavorful than their cultivated counterparts. These include native species, like Elderberry and Milkweed; non-native species, like Burdock and Chicory; and invasive species, like Autumn Olive and Japanese Knotweed. Wild food enthusiast Russ Cohen, author of the book "Wild Plants I Have Known…and Eaten", will give us a presentation about dozens of the tastiest species the Worcester region has to offer, ranging from species everyone knows well, like Daisies and Dandelions, to species folks may have never heard of, like Calamus and Carrion Flower. Russ' talk will also include a dozen of the tastiest and easy-to-identify wild mushroom species. Russ will bring handouts and samples of goodies made from wild foraged ingredients for people to sip and nibble on.
Location: Northboro Historical Society, 52 Main St. (Rt.20). Doors open at 6:30. Dinner at 7:00. Speaker shortly after. Bring a dish to share - appetizer, entree, dessert, or beverage.

AMC Trip Policy - AMC WORCESTER CONSERVATION BOOK CLUB - OUR NATIVE BEESWorcester, Worcester, MA
It's pollinator season - join us as we read and discuss Paige Embry's Our Native Bees: North America's Endangered Pollinators and the Fight to Save Them. From a review in American Entomologist:
Interest in native bees is at an all-time high, as anyone trying to hear all the talks about them at the Entomological Society of America conference can attest. The buzz of activity in the research community is surpassed only by the excitement among the general public, who crave information on how to "Save The Bees!" in their gardens and parks. Paige Embry's book takes readers on an engaging and enlightening tour through current research, outreach, and citizen science on native bees in the United States. Through her account, Embry artfully weaves together descriptions of native bees with accounts of the state of the science from leading research programs. This book will open readers' eyes to the great diversity and importance of these creatures, and what's being done to learn all about their biology.
Consider using the library or a local bookstore to obtain a copy of the book.
