Description: Shovels and mattocks and axes, oh my! Do you hear the call? It's trail work time! Your fellow 20s & 30s are ready to get down and dirty, are you ready to join?
Two nights and two days at the Camp Dodge Trails Center in Gorham, NH, in the heart of the White Mountains. Under the instruction of staff from the AMC Trails Department we'll lend our time and hands to bolstering the good work done by AMC Pro Crews all over the region. In years past we've installed bog bridges, done rock work, installed boardwalks, and more! The work is vigorous but good for the soul and amazing to see results that will pay off for decades to come.
This trip includes 2 nights (Friday and Saturday) stay in one of the shared bunkhouses at Camp Dodge (we'll have one to our group, but we will be sharing) and delicious dinner Friday and Saturday + breakfast & lunch Saturday and Sunday (dietary needs will be met). Each day we'll rally after breakfast, go through the plan for the day, load ourselves and our gear up, and then off to the worksite. We'll put in a full day on Saturday and a partial day on Sunday so we all have a chance to head home.
This trip is intended for people in their 20s & 30s with an interest in trail work, conservation, and preserving the outdoors we know and love. No trail work experience is required, but is always welcome! All you need is a desire to learn and the ability to meet a minimum physical threshold. Work each day will involve hiking a few miles while carrying your pack, tools, and any necessary supplies over varied terrain with a moderate elevation gain. It's good work but it can be hard work. Prepare to be sore and tired but filled with the warm glow of knowing your contributions matter!
At the end of our work days, we'll be relaxing and socializing around Camp Dodge. There's nothing like a day digging in the dirt to make fast friends with your fellow crewmates!
This trip costs $50. Your fee goes directly to the cost of food at the Camp Dodge kitchen.
If you have any questions at all, please let your leaders know! We're happy to provide more information and to hopefully see you out there!
