Fall Hike at Nichewaug Tract in Petersham

Description: No trick, all treats with a fall morning nature hike along a spectacular Trustees of Reservations property at the Nichewaug Tract. We will start off along a ridge overlooking the East Branch of the Swift River, stopping at the valley overlook, the trail will descend and follow the river and wetlands before ascending back to the parking lot. The trees are turning so there will colorful scenery along with diverse woodlands, wetlands, old bridge foundation, and beaver activity.
This is an easy to moderate hike - a little under 4 miles with an elevation of 505’, and a pace at about 2 MPH with water breaks. Expect uneven terrain, rocks, roots, and possibly wet leaves. Poles are suggested and sturdy boots/shoes are required along with a minimum of 1 liter of water and snacks. Be aware that hunting season has started so please have some bright orange on you even though this hike is on a Sunday.
Option to bring a lunch as we will be returning around noon and everyone is welcome to join us after for coffee/hot cocoa/lunch at the quaint Petersham Country Store.
