Perkins Farm holds a notable place in Worcester’s history as the last working farm. The 74 forested acres are now owned and managed by the Worcester Conservation Commission, and have many hiking trails and sites
This 'Ramble' is intended to introduce Perkins farm and the trails to those who may not be aware of what this urban forest has to offer! We'll have a relaxed pace, with both planned and unplanned stops to view highlights and discuss. If we finish all the trails on the planned route, we'll explore key features such as the vernal pools, many (zombie) American Chestnuts, and the old building foundation from the original 1775 farmhouse (pictured) now moved to Ohio.
Notable items to prepare for: - Some trails we will travel are not heavily used and preparation for ticks and a thorough tick check post hike is highly recommended - Dogs - the nearby neighbors often walk their dogs on trail, both on and off leash - Only service animals in our group, NO OTHER PETS.
Equipment:
Be prepared with your water, any snacks, sunscreen, insect repellent and any emergency meds. Have good shoes/boots able to handle rocky trails.
Coordination:
Registration will close on the 16th! Please register early and cancel if you cannot make it - we will have a waitlist. We will do a trail talk at 9:45 and leave promptly at 10 am! Please be on time!
