Description: Join the Worcester 20's & 30's for an outdoor cooking lesson and short hike at Douglas State Forest!
Sal Vazquez Reyes will teach the group how to make sopes, a tradition Mexican dish made with corn masa and beans. For the toppings, we will make a cactus salad and salsa. For drinks, we can make a refreshing Jamaica agua fresca. After cooking, we will have a nice brunch all together. During the instruction, attendees will work in small groups at cooking stations, with use of a charcoal grill.
After brunch, we will have the option to do a short hike at Douglas State Forest. The exact length and route of this hike will depend on participant interest, and how much time is leftover before the full Interchapter Social at Treehouse Brewing at 4pm (more details on that below). Also, for this hike afterward, it is requested that particpants wear something of a blaze orange color, as it is hunting season. Please reach out to Luke if you don't have any of these items.
As time gets closer, participants will be sent out an excel sheet to sign up for what cooking equipment they can bring. Please plan to bring at least a couple of these items to ensure we have enough for each group. These items include cooking pan, cutting board, knife, saucepan, tongs, wooden spoons, and bowls. The leaders will bring all of the food needed for cooking, and there will be a cost of $12 per participant to help cover this. Details for this payment will be sent after registration.
Registration is required for attendance, and registration closes on Tuesday 10/13 at 8pm to allow for us to prepare accordingly. Hope to have you join us!
This event is part of the 20's & 30's Interchapter Fall Fest: Social at Tree House Brewing Company in Charlton, MA with the Connecticut, Narragansett, Southeastern MA, Western MA, and Worcester MA chapters.
