Description: We will start in the Women’s Federated Forest, hiking down the Gorge Trail, which will lead us past some quarry sites and connect us to the abandoned “Rabbit Run” Railroad bed (the last run of this railroad section was June 1, 1935). The hike follows along the Quabbin’s shoreline, from where the Old North Dana Depot was situated, to a connecting trail leading to a beaver pond. After crossing a beaver dam, we continue up the trail to Soapstone Hill. Soapstone Hill offers a spectacular view of the reservoir and the perfect lunch spot. At the bottom of our descent from Soapstone Hill is another quarry site. We will retrace the Gorge Trail back to the parking lot. Average moving pace will be 2 mph. Approx 8.5 miles, 850’ elevation gain, 5-5.5 hours, including break time.
Specific trail information will be sent to approved participants 1-2 days before the hike. Registration closes on Sunday, November 15, 2026, at 6:00 PM.
