*About Orlando Paiva:*Orlando Paiva belonged to that rare class of teachers whose mere presence, humble and diligent, spoke volumes about their mastery. Every day, he meticulously practiced posture, balance, and foot position facing the mirror.
For over 45 years, he taught tango dancing in the United States, Chile, and Japan, creating more than 100 figures, including the famous "el puente" (the bridge) in the early 1950s. In the 1970s, he moved to the United States with his wife Rosa and their two children, where his talent can be glimpsed in Robert Duvall’s Assassination Tango.
Returning to Rosario in the 1980s, he continued teaching until his last days. The Rosario government honored him with a plaque at Ovidio Lagos and Güemes, now known as "la esquina Orlando Paiva" (O.P.’s street corner), and declared him a "distinguished artist" of the city.
Paiva was a true gentleman, epitomized by his simplicity and grace. At the end of an exhibition in San Francisco, someone told him, “You’ve looked so handsome and simple,” to which he humbly replied, “Simple.” This single word captured his essence perfectly.*Author:*Gustavo Benzecry Sabá
