Golden Gate Bridge to Stern Grove

I'm so encouraged by the excitement and energy everybody has shown for this idea - thanks for joining and expressing your interest!

The first two hikes will be quite urban until we reach the northernmost part of the Santa Cruz mountains near Pacifica. To get there, we'll hop from park to park through San Francisco and Daly City.

I think starting this journey (and eventually finishing!) at the Golden Gate Bridge is appropriately dramatic.

This hike is a touch over 10 miles and about 1200 ft of elevation gain and drop. Google says it's about 4 hours, I think it's safe to expect we'll be a bit slower than that.

Some highlights of the trip will be:

• Views of the Pacific, Marin Headlands and the Golden Gate Bridge
• The Presidio, including Andy Goldsworthy's Wood Line sculpture
• Buena Vista park
• Twin Peaks with views of downtown and the bay
• And we'll end up at Stern Grove. (...where we can scope things out before the Stern Grove concerts start the following Sunday)

This is the first event of the first meetup I've ever run - I'm limiting it to 10 people so I don't get overwhelmed with the logistics. If it's wildly popular, we'll figure out how to run things so more people can join!

Notes for the day:

Take care of yourself!

• The weather looks good - but it's San Francisco, so bring a jacket or windbreaker.
• Remember sunscreen, glasses and a hat if you need them.
• Bring plenty of water. I'll probably bring two liters.
• A snack or lunch. This is an urban hike, so there will be plenty of spots to grab a bite - but consider it an opportunity to get your snack game on point for the remote hikes that will be coming up later!

Logistics to start the hike:

• Meet at 9am Sunday at the Langdon Court parking lot.
• I'll be driving a blue Mini with a brown convertible top.

Logistics at the end:

• Lyft or Uber is a good bet to get back to the parking lot.
• If folks want to organize stashing a car and shuttling, we can try that as well.
