Stern Grove to Milagra Ridge / Skyline College

Hike number two! We'll start on the Northeast corner of Stern Grove and walk through Milagra Ridge to end up near Skyline College. Parking should be easy to find in the neighborhood near Stern Grove. There's about 5 spots near the trailhead at the end .

Note, one big deviation from what you see in Google Maps is that we'll walk around the West side of Lake Merced. There's a paved recreation path along the whole west side, but for some reason Google Maps doesn't think you can walk there.

The difficulty should be very similar to our first hike - just over 10 miles, about 1200 ft of elevation gain, and Google says it's about 4 hours. The first hike ended up taking almost exactly what Google predicted.

Some highlights of the trip will be:

• We'll start with a stroll through the forested Stern Grove park.
• Circling Lake Merced (well, half of it...)
• A long stretch through the Daly City neighborhoods made famous by the 60s song Little Boxes on the hillside.
• Finishing strong by ascending the Milagra Ridge up toward Skyline College

Notes for the day:

Take care of yourself!

• We are not likely to have rain, but it could be any combination of sunny, foggy and windy. Prepare accordingly!
• Remember sunscreen, glasses and a hat if you need them.
• Bring plenty of water. I'll probably bring two liters.
• A snack or lunch. This is a suburban hike, so there will be at least a few spots to grab a bite - but consider it an opportunity to get your snack game on point for the remote hikes that will be coming up later!

Logistics:

• This is a ONE-WAY hike and will end about 10 miles away from where it starts.
• Meet at 9am Sunday at the Stern Grove entrance at 20th Ave and Wawona St. There should be plenty of street parking available.
• I'll be driving a blue Mini with a brown convertible top.
