DRIVERS: Fifield-Cahill Trail - Skyline College to Hwy 92

Details

THIS EVENT IS FOR DRIVERS WHO CAN HELP SHUTTLE OTHERS.

This is the event for you if you can help shuttle hikers:

  • You have a reliable vehicle with at least 2 extra seats.
  • You can meet at 7:30am at Upper Crystal Spring Reservoir Vista Point parking area and carpool to the start. (Intersection of Hwy 92 and Hwy 35 near Skyline Memorial Park.)
  • After the hike, you can shuttle others back to the trailhead with your extra seats.

Please read the description thoroughly before adding your RSVP. There are two Meetup events for this hike (the one you are reading right now for drivers who can help shuttle others, and a different event for hikers who need a ride from the end of the hike). You will need to RSVP for the correct event.

If you have another situation that doesn't match either event, please message me directly and I will work you in to the plan.

Hike number three!

We're getting out into nature a bit more. This hike takes us through the Fifield-Cahill section of the Bay Area Ridge Trail.

We'll start from the Notch Trailhead near Skyline College, and hike through to Skylawn Memorial Park near Highway 92 in San Mateo county.

This is a cool hike because we'll have access to the Fifield-Cahill trail which is not generally accessible to the public. We'll be hiking with a docent named Bob Siegel, who will get us past the locked gates and help us take care of the land as we pass through. Bob is a board member of the Bay Area Ridge Trail and deeply involved in Bay Area trails - it's going to be cool to spend the day with him!

Notes for the day:

Take care of yourself:

  • We are not likely to have rain, but it could be any combination of sunny, foggy and windy. Prepare accordingly!
  • The forecast is anywhere from the mid 50s up to about 80 degrees.
  • Remember sunscreen, glasses and a hat if you need them.
  • Bring plenty of water. I'll probably bring two liters.
  • Bring a snack or lunch. There are no places to get food on this hike!

Logistics for drivers who will help shuttle:

Date: Sunday, July 25.
7:15am

  • Drivers (that's you!) meet at the turnout on the North side of Hwy 92 where it intersects with Lifemark Rd. This is the exit you would take to drive into the "Skylawn Funeral Home and Memorial Park".

  • When all drivers have arrived, the docent Bob will guide us to where we'll leave cars for the end of the hike.

  • We carpool to the trailhead.
8:00am - We join the rest of the hikers at Notch Trailhead near Skyline College.
Around 2:00pm - We finish the hike at Skylawn Memorial Park near Highway 92 and carpool back to transit stations or to the trailhead.

  • The hike itself is about 13 miles with about 1,800 feet of elevation gain.

  • The hike should take around 5 hours.

This event is confirmed now (as of July 20), so it's going to happen!
