Join me for a guided tour of the art collection in the Empire State Plaza on Friday May 24th at 3 pm. The tour guide will talk about the masterpieces that Nelson Rockefeller purchased for the public when he built the Plaza. This will be an official tour guided by a staff member of the Curatorial Department.
We will see works of art by Jackson Pollock, Helen Frankenthaler, Naum Gabo, Franz Kline, Robert Motherwell, Louise Nevelson, David Smith, George Segal and Isamu Noguchi, among others.
Art historians have called the collection "the greatest collection of modern American art in any single public site that is not a museum." The Collection was formed under the direction of Governor Nelson A. Rockefeller during construction of the Empire State Plaza (1966–1978).
As a bonus, time permitting we will visit the Hall of New York and the War Room.
