Metropolitan Opera: Vincenzo Bellini's "La Sonnambula," Starring Nadine Sierra
Details
Join us for the Met's "La Sonnambula," Vincenzo Bellini's bel canto opera about love mistakenly lost and then refound. Set in a quaint Swiss village, an innocent young woman, Amina, is discovered in the bedroom of a nobleman due to her somnambulism (sleepwalking). Her fiancé, Elvino, breaks off their wedding due to apparent infidelity, but the truth is eventually revealed when she sleepwalks again, thereby demonstrating her innocence and leading to a happy reconciliation and marriage. This touching tale stars soprano Nadine Sierra, a South Florida native, and tenor Xabier Anudaga as her fiancé. Ricardo Frizza is the conductor.
Sung in Italian with English subtitiles, it's part of the Met's award-winning "Live in HD" series of streamed operas and it includes an intermission. During intermission the audience can get a behind-the-scenes look with exclusive backstage access and interviews. Tickets are $22 for seniors and $24 for under 65. We can get them at the door.
SPECIAL NOTE OF LOCAL INTEREST - "Amina" Nadine Sierra is a 2006 graduate of Dreyfoos School of the Arts in West Palm Beach who's gone on to become an international superstar, headlining shows with the Met and other top opera houses around the world. In July, we saw her as Juliette in the Met's production of "Roméo et Juliette." She sang at last year's reopening of Notre Dame.
We've been to many shows at Dreyfoos, one of the country's premier arts magnet high schools, and they've all been great. Whether it's for music, dance or theater, we hope you'll join us for some this year. The school is one block from Kravis Center, tickets are inexpensive and the auditorium is first-class.
This is a multi-group Meetup. Ours is sponsored by Walls R Us Painting.
