This meetup is for anyone interested in working on art projects in a lovely outdoor setting. Work individually, or join with others on creative projects. Please bring your easel and set up in the garden, or share the large art table.
The setting is Hayes Valley Art Works, at the corner of Octavia Boulevard and Oak (enter on Lily Street). There is a lovely garden with trees and flowers. Bring your own easel and materials, or share with others. A work table and some chairs are provided.
All levels welcome, from beginner to professional artists.

We need your support to keep this long running Online workshop going! This workshop helps people who can't make it to in person workshops be part of our artist community.Like many local arts organizations, our grant funds have dried up. Please help keep this workshop going by participating with a paid ticket!
This workshop is online on Zoom. Suitable for all levels. Led by Lucia Gonnella, a talented plein air artist from San Francisco and Italy with extensive teaching experience. Lucia is a wonderful instructor, and gives step by step demo as you paint along.
No matter your skill level - beginner, intermediate, or advanced - you'll receive personalized instruction and have the opportunity to create your own painting using a variety of techniques, including wet in wet in wet, wet on dry, spattering, blending, layers, masking, salt, and lifting techniques.Lucia will guide you through each step, providing a reference image and ensuring that each participant leaves with a finished piece. The supplies are as follows (don't worry if you don't have everything; there are workarounds if you have basic watercolor set):
Art Supplies:
- drafting tape and/or masking liquid
- scissors
- hair dryer
- table salt
- a sharpened twig (can use a pencil)
- Watercolor paper (suggested 140 lb/300gsm 8”x10” or 9"x12")
- Palette knife
Brushes:
- Flat 1 inch
- Round n.6
- Round n.3
Paint colors recommended (can use similar colors as available):
- Alizarin crimson
- Lemon yellow
- Burnt Sienna
- Ultramarine blue
- Cerulean blue
- Cadmium red
Everyone is welcome to join, from beginners to advanced, kids and adults. The class is on a sliding scale with some free tickets available for those who need them; donations to HVAW are welcomed. We look forward to seeing you!

Join us for a two hour PAINT & SIP workshop with Emily, in our beautiful sculpture garden. Instruction, supplies and refreshments provided. You’ll produce a finished painting during the workshop, suitable for framing.
