What we’re about
INTRODUCTION
Welcome art lovers! We are a group of art enthusiasts who learn about all types of visual fine art from each other. At each monthly virtual Zoom meetup held the second Saturday of each month at 12:00pm, member tell the group about their favorite artists, their favorite works of art, or schools of art they find interesting. We also go to art museums together, art galleries, and art auctions as well as hold additional in person events, some at the lower level meeting room at the Columbia branch of the Seattle Public Library. We try to have at least one in person event that is at a museum or art gallery on the 4th Sunday of each month (if schedules of the venues work out). Additional in person events are scheduled when we can get the meeting room at the Columbia branch of the SPL or we hear about some other interesting art event that is going on.
EMAIL LIST
The active members of the meetup communicate primarily via email so if you would like to share your email so you can be notified of other art related events and information, please feel free to share your email with one of the organizers or leave it in the comments on the Meetup site. You can also email the group organizers at artloverssocialgroup@mailbox.org. If you want to be on the email list, you can also choose to become a part of a second email group where we email each other about other cultural events in addition to visual art such as symphony concerts, films and Moth storytelling events. Also, if you decide to become an active member of the Meetup, we have an account on Box.com where art related information is posted, like great art movies, books, podcasts and recordings of our Zoom meetings.
We are dedicated to making this Meetup kind, positive, open, welcoming and fun! I hope you join us, we have quite a bit going on! We have many members with art history backgrounds and also some members are emerging artists who enjoy sharing their knowledge with the rest of us, who love to learn more about art. Our goal is to make everyone feel comfortable whether they have quite a bit about knowledge of art or not. We have had presentations on our virtual Zoom calls about Finnish art, Western art, the Hudson River school, Abstract art, Daoism and much more.

https://www.gregkucera.com/upcoming.htm#upcomingThere is a great article about Greg Kucera, the founder, in Seattle Times. A link to the entire article is below, with the first few paragraphs of the article copied below.
https://www.seattletimes.com/entertainment/visual-arts/greg-kucera-champion-of-artists-and-a-leading-force-in-the-seattle-art-world-leaves-for-france/
When Greg Kucera opened his Pioneer Square gallery in October 1983, it cost $350 in rent and received the briefest of mentions in a Seattle Times calendar entry: “Greg Kucera, best known as an artist, last night opened the doors of the Greg Kucera Gallery at 608 Second Ave.”
He wouldn’t be “best known” as an artist for long. “I knew I would never make art again,” he said earlier this October, almost exactly 38 years after Greg Kucera Gallery’s first exhibition. “And I haven’t.”
Instead, through a combination of hard work, shrewd choices, good luck and some courage, Kucera built his gallery into a leading force in the Seattle art world, playing advocate and broker for a suite of early-, mid- and late-career artists. Now, hundreds of exhibitions later, he’s leaving the city and moving to France — a castle in southern France, to be specific, which he purchased with his partner and a very good friend in 2020. The gallery will remain, carrying Kucera’s name but under the care of longtime employee Jim Wilcox and his wife, Carol Clifford, who are purchasing the enterprise. (Kucera, now 65, will remain co-director for some unspecified years and expects to slowly decrease his involvement over time.)
