About us

MEMBERSHIP IN OUR SOCIAL CLUB

This is a group where any individual can join who are lovers of Art, Film, Museums, Social activities, and those who want to establish genuine meaningful friendships. If you are also feeling lonely, and want to connect with people, I want you to come out and be a part of our Social Club. It’s so important for those who have a need to interact with others, but are unsure of where to go. I am asking you to take that first step and become a Member, come to an event, and I will help you feel connected. This Social Club is your safe space. I am planning to have our group come together at least once a month, to attend Art exhibits, to see Films, go to Museums, exhibitions of interest, as well as other activities of interest. I also welcome ideas from the Members on other activities as well. All Members are welcome to any of the club’s events, however, guests are only allowed under special circumstances, which requires my prior approval, otherwise, you must be a Full Member of our Social Club to join at the Events. All prospective Members must apply with their actual first name, no initials, no numbers, internet name or corporate monikers are allowed. All prospective members must also provide a proper profile photo of themselves as well.

MUSIC: I have chosen the music by Tangerine Dream for our Social Club in the Video section. The movie from which this comes from is rather downcast, however, the name of the music piece is called, Museum Walk, which was filmed at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and the La Brea Tar Pits. For those Members that care to listen, here is the link.

RULES OF CONDUCT FOR MEMBERSHIP

TO MEMBERS: NOTE: All Members that are confirmed on the Yes RSVP list as of 24 hours prior to the event, are expected to show up for the event. Any event that requires a fee to be paid, those fees are absolutely non-refundable unless the event is canceled. No Exceptions! If you need to cancel for the event, then please cancel no later than 24 hours prior to the start of the event. If any Member cancels after that time without a specific reason in which you must message the Lead Organizer, then they will be removed from the Social Club immediately. You may re-apply for Membership. If you have RSVP'd Yes, and need to cancel for a valid reason or emergency, you can do so by messaging me no later then one (1) hour prior to the start of the event. If you cancel for any reason other than a valid reason or emergency after one (1) hour prior to the event, or just decide not to show up or message me, then you will be removed from the Social Club, and barred entry permanently. ALSO: No Member on the Waiting List can just show-up at the event without a proper Yes RSVP. That is completely unfair to all of the Members on the waiting list. If you just show-up to the event as a Member, and do not have a Yes RSVP, or are on the Waiting List, then you will be removed from the Social Club permanently, and barred from re-applying. I am very sorry to have to institute these rules, however, there have been many Members who have RSVP's in the past, and not shown up or messaged me, and also Members on the Waiting List who have shown up without regard for those other Members still on that list. If you want to belong to our Social Club, then please abide by the rules. Thank you for your understanding.

RULES ON NO-SHOWS

Please Note: After you RSVP that you are coming to an Event, you are expected to show up, unless you cancel prior to the start of the event. If you cannot make the event or just plain forget, and do not contact the Lead Organizer, then you will be removed from the membership and barred from re-applying.

RULES ON WAITLISTS & FILLED EVENTS

There will be those events that will have a limited amount of Members who can RSVP, and the overage will either be put on a waitlist, or the event will be completely closed out. If Members that have RSVP’d decide not to come, then those members on the waitlist will be moved over to the RSVP yes list. If you cannot make it, please take your name off this list, as it is not fair to the other members on the waitlist who want to come to that event. NOTE: Any Member who is on a waitlist or closed out event with no waitlist, and then decides to just show-up at an event anyway, will immediately be removed permanently from our Social Club. I take attendance at every event, and will know if you are properly RSVP’d or not. I am truly sorry I have to institute these rules, however, those Members who RSVP, are on time (within reason, and I do understand about transportation issues in and around the City), and follow the rules of this Social Club, I want to thank all of you for playing by the rules of our Club, which benefits all Members.

OUR EVENTS - PLEASE NOTE
You have joined our Social Club to be a member, and to take part in our events with other members. Members are required to attend at least one event every six (6) months, otherwise you will be removed from Membership of the Social Club. If you join our Social Club, then you need to attend an event. Otherwise, what is the point. This is not too much to ask. Our Members are a wonderful group of people, who are all looking to enjoy each event and meet new friends, be it at a Museum, an art installation, a classic movie at a classic theatre, or see architectural works throughout the New York City and surrounding areas. Again, if you cannot attend one event during any 6 month period, your membership will be withdrawn.

GUESTS AT EVENTS

Guests of members are not allowed to attend any event unless the member needs them to assist with a disability. If that circumstance arises, the member must contact me before the event so I may make a note of that circumstance.

## ✨ A VERY SPECIAL AFTERNOON AT THE GUGGENHEIM

Join us for a wonderful Saturday afternoon at one of New York City's most iconic cultural institutions as our Social Club returns to the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum for a completely new experience!
And this time, we're doing something special.
I have arranged a private one-hour guided tour exclusively for our Social Club, led by one of the Guggenheim's Museum Educators, focusing on the exciting exhibition:

# 🎨 GUGGENHEIM POP: 1960 TO NOW

Following our private guided experience, our afternoon will continue with a self-guided exploration of the Guggenheim's brand-new Taryn Simon exhibition, which will have opened only eight days before our visit!
So this is essentially two completely different museum experiences in one afternoon.
This is Pop Art—but not simply a retrospective.
Guggenheim Pop: 1960 to Now traces the explosive emergence of Pop in the early 1960s and follows its influence all the way into contemporary art.
Advertising. Comic strips. Consumer products. Movies. Mass media. Celebrity. Everyday objects.
Artists took imagery that surrounded ordinary people and completely transformed the boundaries between popular culture and fine art.
And we're talking about some very recognizable names:
🎨 Andy Warhol
🎨 Roy Lichtenstein
🎨 Yayoi Kusama
🎨 Claes Oldenburg & Coosje van Bruggen
🎨 Richard Hamilton
🎨 Jim Dine
...alongside contemporary artists who continue to reinterpret Pop's influence today.
The exhibition also tells an important Guggenheim story. In 1963, curator Lawrence Alloway organized Six Painters and the Object at the Guggenheim—the first museum presentation of Pop Art in New York. More than six decades later, this exhibition looks at where Pop began and what became of its legacy.

## ⭐ SOME VERY SPECIAL HIGHLIGHTS

There are several works here that make this exhibition particularly interesting.
🍌 Maurizio Cattelan's Comedian — yes, THAT artwork: the banana attached to the wall.
🏸 Claes Oldenburg and Coosje van Bruggen's Soft Shuttlecock — being shown in New York for the first time in 25 years.
✨ And Yayoi Kusama's INFINITY MIRRORED ROOM – DANCING LIGHTS THAT FLEW UP TO THE UNIVERSE, a major loan to the exhibition.
Having a Guggenheim Museum Educator guide us through this for an hour should make an enormous difference. Rather than simply looking at the works, we'll be able to understand why they mattered, what the artists were responding to, and how Pop changed modern art.

# 🌀 AND THEN — SOMETHING COMPLETELY NEW!

## TARYN SIMON — A BRAND-NEW GUGGENHEIM EXHIBITION

After our private Pop tour concludes, we're not finished!
We'll continue on our own through the Guggenheim's brand-new major exhibition by Taryn Simon, opening September 18—just eight days before we arrive.
And this one sounds fascinating.
Simon is known for using photography and storytelling to examine the hidden systems, unseen forces and narratives that shape the world around us.
For this major Guggenheim exhibition, she has created an entirely new body of work incorporating:
📷 Never-before-seen photographs
🎥 Video
📝 Text
🗿 Sculpture
🌀 Interactive installation
And here's what makes it particularly appropriate for the Guggenheim:
The exhibition fills the entire Rotunda.
Rather than following one predetermined route, visitors will be able to choose their own pathways through a huge constellation of imagery and ideas spiraling through Frank Lloyd Wright's extraordinary building.
It should be a completely different experience from the Pop exhibition—and because it will have opened only days earlier, we'll be among its earliest visitors.

***

## 🏛️ AND, OF COURSE...THIS IS THE GUGGENHEIM

The art is only part of the experience.
Frank Lloyd Wright's extraordinary spiral building is itself one of the great works of 20th-century architecture and part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Even walking through the Guggenheim is unlike visiting virtually any other museum.
And for anyone who wants to remain after our two featured exhibitions, your admission provides an opportunity to continue exploring the Museum—including the ongoing Thannhauser Collection, with Impressionist, Post-Impressionist and modern French masterpieces including works by Degas, Manet and Van Gogh.
