This deeply moving tour connects the lives of two women living nearly a century apart, revealing how resilience, community, and determination shaped their survival in New York City’s garment industry.

• The 1880s Tenement Apartment of the Gumpertz family, whose primary breadwinner disappeared during the Panic of 1873
• An interactive 1980s Chinatown garment shop, where you’ll hear firsthand memories from Mrs. Wong, her children, and her coworkers

Through these stories, we explore:

• How immigrant women navigated economic hardship
• The role of community in survival and resilience
• Parallels between 19th-century German-Jewish and 20th-century Chinese immigrant experiences
• How history echoes across generations in New York City

This tour is immersive, intimate, and guided by a professional Tenement Museum educator, who brings these stories to life with depth and care.
