Join us at the charming and historic Mount Vernon Hotel Museum & Garden for a special Culinary History Tour, where we’ll explore what it meant to dine, socialize, and experience hospitality in New York City during the 1820s and 1830s — when this elegant property operated as a refined “day hotel” in what was then the peaceful countryside just beyond the city.

During our guided tour, we will move through the Tavern Room, Dining Room, Kitchen, and Ladies’ Parlor, discovering the culinary traditions, social customs, and everyday rituals of early 19th-century life. Along the way, we’ll be introduced to historic recipes — thoughtfully reimagined through a modern lens — offering a vivid and engaging glimpse into the past.
Then, the experience continues…

Following the tour, we will gather (weather permitting) in the museum’s beautiful garden, or return to the warm and intimate tavern, for a curated wine and cheese tasting experience designed to complement the story we’ve just explored.

🍷 A WSET-certified wine expert will guide us through a selection of historically inspired wines, sharing insight into their origins and flavor profiles — and each guest will enjoy a full glass of wine to savor and enjoy during the social portion of the afternoon.

🧀 A professional cheese monger from the renowned Ideal Cheese will introduce a selection of carefully paired cheeses and accompaniments, enhancing the tasting with expert commentary.
