We haven't done this one in a while — let's go see what's new at local art galleries!

For those new in town: Art after Dark is a monthly event where local art galleries and other creative places in SLO open their doors between 5 and 8pm for us to enjoy for free, and we might even score a glass of wine at some of the venues. :)

We'll start from the northernmost point on the event map — Art Central SLO (meet inside) — and then work our way down the list of participating venues, ending our walk at SLO Gallery.

I recommend parking on Pepper St. (half a block from Art Central) — it's free and there are often plenty of spots available. We don't want to take up space in the store's tiny parking lot for 2 hours. :)

Let's transform a humble gourd into a beautiful functional bowl! We'll learn to carefully hollow, shape, and decorate our unique bowl using traditional techniques and our own creative flair.

Let's create some beautiful blue-and-white prints! How cyanotype printing works: we place objects or stencils on light-sensitive paper to create a unique design, expose the paper to the sun or UV light, and finally rinse to reveal the finished product.

Please bring some snacks with you, as the workshop runs through lunchtime. Linda explained to me that this timing is ideal because paper is best exposed to sunlight when the Sun is high in the sky — around midday. And if we don't have enough sunlight on that day, we'll use a UV lamp instead.
