Dana Adobe Cultural Center tour — a glimpse into early California history

Details

Need a good reason to drive down to South County? Let's tour a historic 19th-century homestead in Nipomo!

The badass Captain William Dana from Boston made his way to California during the rancho era. He jumped through many hoops to marry his Mexican bride Maria Josefa and to receive Rancho Nipomo (modern-day Nipomo) as a Mexican land grant in 1837. He put the land to great use!

What's on the grounds:

  • The restored 19th-century adobe house, with portraits, period furnishings, and clothing donated by the Dana family.
  • Vineyard, blacksmith shop, original rancho tallow vat.
  • Visitor center with exhibits on the history of the area.
  • Last but not least: gorgeous scenery as the backdrop and the most peaceful atmosphere you can find. :)

The guided tour is $10 per person (self-guided tours are free, but exclude the adobe).

Given construction work on 101, please allow plenty of time for travel to arrive on time — the last tour of the day starts around 2 pm and the place closes at 3.

Also, please update your RSVP as soon as possible if your plans change.
