What we’re about
Come into the ArtHouse ! Meet with local film and arts lovers to watch indie, foreign and classic films! We'll also attend art gallery openings, theater performances, Embassy evenings, museums, author readings and interesting concerts. And more often than not, there will be a reception! The idea will be to keep the price down and participation and conversation up!
We'll go wherever art house films are screened in town--museums, cultural institutions, embassies, local film festivals, as well as arthouse film meccas like the Goethe Institute, AFI Silver Theater and Landmark Theaters. We'll attend galleries you may not know and museums on special days. We're also connected to the theater world so we'll be seeing some of those shows.
Please be sure to read the group's attendance policy on the message board or "About Us" section. Also, note that the Art House meetup is a group for ACTIVE members fully engaged and interested in attending outings. Inactive members who have not logged into the site for 6 months or more are automatically removed to ensure the integrity of the group.
Members are asked to donate $1 per meetup they attend to help cover the Meetup.com fees ($72 per 6 months). You can make this 'suggested donation' online via Paypal or in person to your organizer. Your contribution is much appreciated!

The Embassy of Sweden in Washington, DC is excited to launch its summer film series 2025, showcasing a selection of Swedish films that celebrate the rich cultural heritage and cinematic excellence of Sweden.
They will kick-off by presenting: THE SWEDISH TORPEDO (2024).
Swedish filmmaker Frida Kempff (Knocking, Sundance 2021) and star Josefin Neldén (Border, 438 Days) masterfully capture the timeless story of a woman defying expectations to pursue her goals and break societal norms.
The film will be screened on the rooftop (weather permitting) of the Embassy of Sweden.

In the summer of 1939, with World War II looming, 30-year-old single mother Sally Bauer (Josefin Neldén) is determined to become the first Scandinavian to swim across the English Channel. Confronted with societal and familial pressures, including a threat to take away her beloved son, she courageously defies conventions to pursue her dreams.
Run Time 120 min."The Swedish Torpedo makes a strong case as a sports film and acting showcase. Kempff navigates the shifting genres, proving effective at creating imagery outside of her success in documentary and horror. However, a few missteps stop this from reaching the upper echelon of sports films. That said, it’s a very good film about a woman history has erased. These are the kinds of sports films we need."

This is a bit strange because it's at 2 pm on a Monday. But it's a free concert of a Broadway musical that received very good reviews last year - with the Tony-Award winning composer (he also wrote music for Band's Visit) and the cast members.

The Library of Congress welcomes Tony Award-winning composer David Yazbek and company members from Broadway’s "Dead Outlaw" to the Coolidge Auditorium for an exclusive performance of selections from the show. Created by David Yazbek ("The Band's Visit"), Erik Della Penna, and Itamar Moses, "Dead Outlaw" is the darkly hilarious and wildly inventive musical about the bizarre true story of outlaw-turned-corpse-turned-celebrity Elmer McCurdy. “Dead Outlaw” previously ran off-Broadway and dominated the 2024 awards season, taking home the prize for Best Musical at the Drama Desk Awards, New York Drama Critics’ Circle Awards, Outer Critics Circle Awards, and Off-Broadway Alliance Awards.
