Sweden on the Roof: Concert - Ticket Purchase Required!!

Details

This just came up yesterday for next Friday so we will attach it to our Friday night Art All Night Walk in Georgetown. Should be an incredible evening.

When the weather is good - which it looks to be for next week - these rooftop concerts are special. And this band looks wonderful. You can buy tickets at this link for $10. It will most likely sell out.

Embassy of Sweden presents: Elsa Nilsson and Band of Pulses
Swedish Flute Player, Composer and Educator Elsa Nilsson was born and raised in Gothenburg, Sweden and currently resides in Brooklyn, New York. Band of Pulses is a multimedia exploration into the intersection between jazz and poetic speech based on the voice of Dr. Maya Angelou as she reads "On The Pulse Of Morning". Nilsson and her band weave Dr. Angelous words, pitches and rhythms into a suite presented with a visual companion piece by Philadelphia based American artist Sigmund Washington, to be projected in conjunction with the performance.

Doors: 7:30 PM I Concert: 8 PM Government issued photo ID is required to enter Embassy of Sweden. Limited seats available. In case of inclement weather the show will move indoors.

About the Band

Elsa Nilsson draws inspiration from every aspect of life and music that moves her, combining them through the lens of Jazz to create a deeply personal expression that she hopes is universally relatable. She can often be found playing at The 55 Bar, Bar Bayeux and other New York Jazz venues. Nilsson is on Faculty at The New School College for Performing Arts where she teaches Rhythmic Analysis 1 and 3 and Socially Engaged Artistry.

Santiago Leibson (piano) is a Brooklyn based, Argentinian born jazz pianist and composer. His music is situated in the frontier of jazz, improvised music, classical and contemporary music.

Marty Kenney (bass player) has performed with musicians such as Art Lande, Billy Drummond, Rich Perry, Steve Slagle, Allan Harris, Rez Abbasi, Brandon Seabrook, Brian Krock's Big Heart Machine, David Berkman, and the New York Standards Quartet featuring Tim Armacost and Gene Jackson.

Born in Santiago de Chile, Rodrigo Recabarren (drummer) has been in NYC since 2009. He has worked with artists as Guillermo Klein, Brad Shepik, Melissa Aldana, Camila Meza, Claudia Acuña, Rafal Sarnecki and Andre Carvallo among many others.

Sigmund Washington is a stop-motion animator and director quietly tucked away on the southern shores of New Jersey. Working in paper, his work is heavily influenced by pop culture, surrealism and childhood nostalgia. Music also plays a major inspirational role in his work as his career started animating and directing music videos.

Maya Angelou is best known for her work as an author and poet. Some of her famous poems include “Phenomenal Woman,” “Still I Rise,” and “On the Pulse of Morning,” which she recited at President Bill Clinton’s inauguration in 1993 and which earned her a Grammy Award. Angelou also enjoyed a career as a Tony- and Emmy-nominated actor and singer in plays, musicals, and onscreen. In her work as a civil rights activist, she collaborated with Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X, among others. The Presidential Medal of Freedom recipient died in May 2014 at age 86.
Welcome to an evening of music and poetry, on Embassy of Sweden's Rooftop!
