What we’re about
Come into the ArtHouse ! Meet with local film and arts lovers to watch indie, foreign and classic films! We'll also attend art gallery openings, theater performances, Embassy evenings, museums, author readings and interesting concerts. And more often than not, there will be a reception! The idea will be to keep the price down and participation and conversation up!
We'll go wherever art house films are screened in town--museums, cultural institutions, embassies, local film festivals, as well as arthouse film meccas like the Goethe Institute, AFI Silver Theater and Landmark Theaters. We'll attend galleries you may not know and museums on special days. We're also connected to the theater world so we'll be seeing some of those shows.
Please be sure to read the group's attendance policy on the message board or "About Us" section. Also, note that the Art House meetup is a group for ACTIVE members fully engaged and interested in attending outings. Inactive members who have not logged into the site for 6 months or more are automatically removed to ensure the integrity of the group.
Members are asked to donate $1 per meetup they attend to help cover the Meetup.com fees ($72 per 6 months). You can make this 'suggested donation' online via Paypal or in person to your organizer. Your contribution is much appreciated!

In this comic caper from Uruguayan filmmaker Daniel Hendler (THE MONEYCHANGER), Santiago, a corporal in Argentina’s police force, flees from his fellow officers to Uruguay. There, donning his now-frayed uniform, Santiago ekes out a living posing as a food inspector, sampling the dairy products and sausages from the regional food halls to survive while keeping his true identity a secret. The kindness of the strangers around him — including a woman who may prove to be the love of his life — further nourish Santiago, giving him hope for a new life in this charming and gentle film about community, connections and cheese.Official Selection, 2025 Venice and San Sebastián film festivals. DIR/SCR Daniel Hendler; PROD Micaela Solé. Uruguay/Argentina/Spain, 2025, color, 95 min. In Spanish with English subtitles. NOT RATED

Drama Desk Award winner for Outstanding Adaptation and recent Broadway sensation, Amy Herzog’s work unearths the relevance of Ibsen’s tale for our time, weighing the cost of standing up to power when pressured into silence. Theater J has done some wonderful work under the new artistic director.
We saw an all-star reading of this recently - very powerful and timely!

It will allow you to select your seats and then a price (as low as $5 as you proceed through).Ibsen’s tale highlights the reverberating power of citizens who go against the status quo to do what’s right by their community. The story raises powerful questions around the importance of keeping society healthy over economic gain, integrity within influence, and the personal cost of speaking up.
The story follows a small-town doctor who considers himself a proud, upstanding member of his close-knit community. When he discovers a catastrophe that risks the lives of everyone in town, he raises the alarm. But he is shaken to his core when those in power, including his own brother, try not only to silence him, but to destroy him.
