I agree that this is a great list for our reference.

It's nice to have a real arts pro in charge of the group.

You are such a fabulous source of venues-- thank you for all your hard work.  I am about to leave the area for about 4 months; I hope you will retain me on this meet up so I can participate when I return.

Here's one of the "newsletters" I like to do from time to time with recommendations. Hopefully, I will transfer all this to an ArtHouse website soon with many more previews and suggestions.
1. The film we saw last night, El Gusto, is amazing, and best of all it is playing again tonight at National Geographic at 9pm.  Director Safinez Bousbia will be there again to answer questions. Think Buena Vista Social Club in Algeria and Paris with beautiful lessons in world peace thrown in. Tickets are available but you have to get them at the box office. They will be available beginning at 3 pm. What a soundtrack!
2. Colleges are a great source of culture in the area. Just a sampling is the Katzen opening we're doing tonight at American University; Georgetown is have two nights of a cappella at incredible Gaston Hall tonight and next Saturday ($10); and the University of Maryland is showing last year's superb Oscar-nominated foreign film Footnote for free at 4pm Wednesday followed by a Q&A with the director Joseph Cedar.
3. Speaking of films and a cappella, I loved Pitch Perfect which is still playing around. I'm not quite up on every new film yet, but my favorites that are out include: Argo (Ben Affleck is establishing quite a reputation; also rent Gone Baby Gone if you've never seen it); The Intouchables at our friends at the West End is really funny; the Avalon is still playing Searching for Sugar Man, a beautiful documentary; and Arbitrage is excellent.
4. There are two Pay What You Can theater events this week. You for Me for You at Woolly Mammoth on Monday and Tuesday, and Woody Sez: The Life and Music of Woody Guthrie on Thursday at Theater J.  Not sure yet if we'll do a meetup.
5. Art galleries: If you're near Silver Spring  today, Printmakers has an excellent opening reception from 1-4. One of my favorite galleries, Morton Fine Art on a picture-perfect block on Florida Ave. off 18th, has an opening Friday from 6-8. Tell Amy Morton you're from the ArtHouse. is a pretty good source for openings.
6. Speaking of Silver Spring, AFI's European Union Showcase runs from Nov. 9-20.  We'll definitely be doing something there. It is one of the area's premiere festivals.
7. Running the same time is FotoWeek DC, just an amazing group of photography shows, exhibits, parties and events. We have the Slideluck Potshow on Nov. 10 scheduled.  And we'll probably do one or more events with them as well.
8. The Kids Euro Festival continues until Nov. 14. They have lined up some beautiful venues for this huge event with mostly free shows (with a kid or not): The House of Sweden, the Austrian Cultural Forum and the Library of Congress today, National Geographic, the French Embassy and Hillwood Museum next weekend.
9. And finally for those of you out in Virginia, the Washington West Film Festival continues today and tomorrow. Their venues are Reston and the sparkling new Angelika Mosaic in Fairfax. Check out some great independent films!
See you soon and thanks for all the support! Always nice to hear from you - just make sure it goes only to me!
