What we’re about
Calling all culture lovers! This group will meet two to three times per month to enjoy fine arts events in Salt Lake City. Think classical music, opera, theater, ballet, modern dance, art museums, gallery strolls, films, etc. We'll experience both performing and visual arts from the major professional companies/institutions as well as from smaller emerging artists and groups.
We will generally keep the group size small (6-8 participants; possibly more for some venues and events) to allow for group members to interact, converse, and get to know each other.
For a small city, Salt Lake City has a vibrant and diverse arts scene. Let's get out and enjoy it, and make new friends along the way. Join us!

See all- Salt Lake Acting Company Play - "Bald Sisters"Salt Lake Acting Company, Salt Lake City, UT
Salt Lake Acting Company's (SLAC) current production, "Bald Sisters" by Vichet Chum, has received rave reviews from local and national critics. Synopsis: “Two sisters, at odds since birth, as they settle the affairs of their strong-willed, wise-cracking mother while reconciling their family's Cambodian heritage with its ever-so-complicated American present…an irreverent, comic and ultimately poignant examination of the ties that bind multigenerational families of immigrants together: history, spirituality, and humor.”
In a recent press release, SLAC shared that many audience members and board members have said this is their favorite show they've ever seen at SLAC. Check out this local review of the play by Front Row Reviewers.
We'll see the Sunday 1pm matinee, with an option for brunch before the play at 11am at nearby Arlo, an elegant Capitol Hill Bistro with a creative brunch menu.
Tickets for the play are $40 and are reserved seating. I will collect money from attendees and then purchase our group's tickets in advance so we can sit together. If you RSVP, please be sure to watch the event chat and/or turn on email notifications for messages from Meetup so you'll receive communications about ticket purchase and other logistics!
When you RSVP, please also let me know if you'd like to join us for brunch at Arlo at 11am, or if you'd prefer to meet in front of the SLAC theater at 12:45 pm.
Not open - Environmentally-Themed Exhibits at UMOCA and Drinks at Lake EffectUtah Museum of Contemporary Art, Salt Lake City, UT
A Saturday afternoon visit to the Utah Museum of Contemporary Art (UMOCA), where we'll check out the current exhibitions including:
As the Lake Fades: A multi-media exhibit, featuring works by multiple artists, that explores drought, climate change, and the environmental crisis facing Utahns today through the lens of the Great Salt Lake. The exhibit explores how people have been, and continue to be, connected to the lake as well as its importance to the past, present, and future residents of the Salt Lake Valley.
Parable Bodies: Sculptural works by Moses Williams featuring materials that are tactile, lustrous, visceral, and inherently emotive. Referencing deserts, mountains, plants, human and non-human creatures, this exhibit presents a world of entities that are not separate but rather exist in a relational web where “slippage, entanglement, and influence” occur between all materials.Suggested donation for admission to the museum is $10.
After the museum visit, we'll discuss the art over drinks and appetizers at nearby (and aptly named) Lake Effect (155 W. 200 South).
For extra credit - read these articles about the ecological crisis facing the Great Salt Lake, and we can discuss them (book club style) over cocktails:
"The Great Salt Lake's Dire Need for Regeneration" (GreenBiz, April 2023)
"As the Great Salt Lake Dries Up, Utah Faces an Environmental Nuclear Bomb" (New York Times, June 2023)
When you RSVP, please comment below or in the event chat to let me know if you're planning to join for drinks at Lake Effect so I can make sure we have an accurate number for our reservation with the bar.
