What we’re about
ATTENTION Professional Fine Artists & Drawing Hobbyists -
Feeling stuck at home? Uninspired? Lonely? Is it hard to make new friends and keep up with your old friends?
This is the place for you - if you enjoy drawing and painting as a hobby or would like to further your practice skills, this is the place to meet professional and hobby artists who come together and interact online.
We do weekly zoom hangouts - watching movies (retro, anime, bad movies) together and drawing online. Occasionally, we meet in person and draw outside, or at cafes. Sometimes play board games, sing karaoke or go to museums and art galleries.

Arts & Rec Toronto started in 2014 and has grown into a close-knit community of friends that were mainly from Toronto, Ontario.
Now we welcome artists globally (mainly proficient in English) and are curious about us Toronto Canucks :). We love our Americans too!

Upcoming events (4+)
See all- Drawing PromptsLink visible for attendees
Tired of drawing what you see? Looking for a way to get your creative juices flowing when you draw? With word prompts like "Octopus Lumberjack" or "Window, Inspect and Reach", it's up to YOU and your imagination on how you want to draw.
This is a fun approach to letting loose with your drawing abilities, spice up your practice and breathe new ideas in your art-making. Each prompt will be a 30 minute session followed with a show and tell to explain the process behind your madness.
WHAT TO EXPECT ---
- For this event, there will be 3 drawing prompts - each prompt lasts 30 minutes.
- For word prompts, I will provide 4 words or give you a scenario and you can draw it however you like, whether it's conceptual or figurative. For the image prompt, I'll provide 3 cards, and you can mix and match the given images you see.
- Usually I put background music on for concentration, but I encourage social chatting with others if you feel more comfortable socializing.
- When the time is up, we do a show and tell where the artist explains the piece they were drawing, and participants can comment on the work.
The last prompt is the Cursed prompt where the art piece is usually adult themed. If you wish not to participate, either provide a PG friendly version of your drawing or step out. We're all adults here.
** For new members - this is a social and friendly group so we kindly ask you to turn on your camera briefly to remove the anon identity. You may turn off your camera afterwards, we're all trying to get past being strangers here.
If you don't have it turned on after being asked, you will be removed from the session.
AI generators are banned for the use of prompts, as this would defeat the purpose of mentally exercising your creativity

- 📺 Series Watch - Syfy's Children of Dune Ep 1-2 🪱 📺Link visible for attendees
Join us for the epic 2-part mini-series' Frank Herbert's Dune (2000) and Children of Dune (2003). In the early 2000's, the Sci-Fi Channel (Not Syfy!) began broadcasting feature-length, high-production-cost miniseries. Dune was one of their first, and led to other high-profile projects like the Battlestar Galactica remake.
These two minseries translated all three of Herbert's original trilogy novels: Dune, Dune Messiah, and Children of Dune. So, why wait 3 years or more for Denis Villeneuve's awesome translation of Dune Messiah, when you can track Paul's entire journey from start-to-finish.
This series had a phenomenal cast, including William Hurt, Susan Sarandon, and in an early role for James McAvoy (Professor X of the X-Men). Also, while the special effects show their age, the art production, music/sound design, and set pieces impress. We'll be watching the 6-part-series in three sessions.

Thank you all so much! - 📽️ Foreign TV Series: Three Kingdoms (2010) (Sub) - Episode 61-63Link visible for attendees
Three Kingdoms (2010) TV show was the most expensive TV show produced at the time in China. While based on the classic Chinese epic novel, it deviates from it. However, it features a very close to reality combat, while keeping over the top personalities of the characters.
The action is set in the period when weak central authority causes China to break into warring kingdoms. Join us and experience what could be argued a better Game of Thrones, given that the TV show and the novel predate its Western counterpart.
The episodes are subbed using fan created subtitles that are superior to official ones. Must watch for fans of Dynasty Warriors and Total War: Three Kingdoms
