About us
Arts & Rec Toronto is a laid-back creative hangout where people draw together, play games like gartic phone, watch movies, and occasionally meet up in person. Most of our hangouts happen online, with members joining from both Canada and the U.S.
Started in downtown Toronto in 2014, the group has grown into a fun, low-pressure space to create and unwind together.
Later this year, we plan to move off Meetup and onto Discord (and we may also set up an email list for anyone who doesn’t use Discord).

Join us for a bingo night before we get down for some karaoke! Sit on the patio in beautiful Kensington, have a few beers or a latte, and play a few rounds of Bingo with us. Conversation is a lot easier when everyone is drinking and gambling.

Belt out your favorite pop songs, heavy metal, rap, musical theatre, or join in on the ensemble cast while serenading the crowd with boy band hits. We expect to go way past midnight, can you? (You don't have to lol)
The Harmony cafe has a variety of alcoholic and non alcoholic libations, cocktails, and baked goods so have a bite late!
This night your host is AJ - Make sure to get your name added to the list! Our Karaoke machine is connected to YouTube so song selection is pretty much UNLIMITED 😵 !

Indoor Draw & Sketch Hangout

We're doing an afternoon sketching hangout at the CIBC square food court.
First time meeting us and still not sure about the vibe? Check out photos from past in-person events of 2025
Please bring your art supplies. Digital tablet, dry mediums, watercolour set, really anything that doesn't smell and is non toxic and easy to clean up. Please be considerate and leave the space as clean as it was before.
Feel free to grab a drink or snack if you'd like.

Drawing Prompts
·OnlineOnlineTired of drawing what you see? Looking for a way to get your creative juices flowing when you draw? With word prompts like "Octopus Lumberjack" or "Window, Inspect and Reach", it's up to YOU and your imagination on how you want to draw.
This is a fun approach to letting loose with your drawing abilities, spice up your practice and breathe new ideas in your art-making. Each prompt will be a 30 minute session followed with a show and tell to explain the process behind your madness.
WHAT TO EXPECT ---
- For this event, there will be 3 drawing prompts - each prompt lasts 30 minutes.
- For word prompts, I will provide 4 words or give you a scenario and you can draw it however you like, whether it's conceptual or figurative. For the image prompt, I'll provide 3 cards, and you can mix and match the given images you see.
- Usually I put background music on for concentration, but I encourage social chatting with others if you feel more comfortable socializing.
- When the time is up, we do a show and tell where the artist explains the piece they were drawing, and participants can comment on the work.
The last prompt is the Cursed prompt where the art piece is usually adult themed. If you wish not to participate, either provide a PG friendly version of your drawing or step out. We're all adults here.
** For new members - this is a social and friendly group so we kindly ask you to turn on your camera briefly to remove the anon identity. You may turn off your camera afterwards, we're all trying to get past being strangers here.
If you don't have it turned on after being asked, you will be removed from the session.
AI generators are banned for the use of prompts, as this would defeat the purpose of mentally exercising your creativity
