What we’re about
AVL Writers (formerly Asheville Writers) started some time ago with events across for the WNC region. As of spring 2022, it's a week-to-week gathering of writers in Asheville, NC who are actively working on a piece with the intention of publishing (or not). This includes all formats: long-form fiction excerpts like novels, novellas, short stories, screenplays, poetry, flash fiction, etc. We are critique-based, but that is not all we have been so far.
You can join the email list at our website.
The group is critique-based, meaning that most events will feature an honest critique of anyone's work who is willing to share it. So far Wednesday evenings from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. has been our most consistent schedule.

January Write-A-Thon
Odd's Cafe, 800 Haywood Rd Ste A, Asheville, NC, USJoin AVL Writers for an independent writing session. Unlike the usual events, this will be an independently focused writing session held at Odd’s Cafe. This isn’t about sharing your writing. It’s about having a time and place to work on it with minimal distraction.
Silence or headphones encouraged, but light conversation can always happen, so be ready for it. All writers welcome regardless of experience level.
Introductions will occur at the beginning of the session and you’re encouraged to show up a good few minutes before. Five-minute breaks will be announced and recommended at every hour interval to help everyone keep pace. Don’t worry about staying all four hours. Feel free to show up or leave at your leisure.
If you're having trouble finding us, look for a placard on the table with the group's name or ask the staff (they will point us out). Please support Odd’s Cafe by purchasing one or more items as you work, as they’ve been supportive of this group for quite a long time.
If you would like to join our group email list for updates regarding contests, events, and to request to join the group Discord, you can sign up on our website.2 attendees
