Do you have trouble speaking your mind to co-workers, family members or other people in your life? Are you often afraid of others’ potential reaction to things you need to say? Saying “no”, receiving or offering criticism and navigating disagreements are all examples of common situations which many of us feel unprepared to handle.

Speak Up! is a structured bi-weekly meetup for people who want to practice assertive communication. Using challenging interpersonal situations from our own experiences, we pair up to practice new behaviours and social skills in a risk-free setting.

What is Assertiveness Toronto?

Hi! I’m Stokely. I’m an interpersonal skills coach with 3+ years experience helping people to find their confidence and lose the fear of saying what is on their mind. I’m also a software developer. A pretty regular guy by all accounts except one - I used to be painfully shy. Being assertive and saying what is on my mind is a challenge I’ve overcome with practice and intention. I have used the technique of behaviour rehearsal to move past my own fears and I get a great deal of fulfillment from supporting others to develop themselves in the same way. The value that skill in assertiveness has added to my life cannot be understated.

I started Speak Up! and Assertiveness Toronto to fill the need I see every day in others who struggle to communicate their thoughts in anxiety-provoking situations.

From public speaking to private conversations, skill in assertive communication is the ultimate self-improvement tool and the key to unlocking the confidence, self-esteem and social potential that I believe every single person possesses.
