Astoria Writers Write(!)
5:00-5:15: Requisite fifteen minute schmoozing. 5:15-6:15: We write for an hour, a la the "Shut Up & Write" meetups. 6:15-6:25: Replenish mind and body after intense and gratifying writing session via the ordering of food and drink. 6:25-8:00: We critique, in a a supportive way, two pieces from group members. The two pieces will have been designated the previous week. These files are available through astoriawg.blogspot.com. 8:00: Sad farewells, until next week. We look forward to seeing you at the Sunday AWG Meetup. Any questions, please feel free to contact us through this site. PLEASE NOTE: You must attend at least one meetup before submitting a piece for review. This should go without saying, but we do expect you to not harass anyone at Panera Bread during the meetup. We have had it happen where people have done just that and we were forced to ask them to leave the group. PLEASE NOTE AGAIN: It's probably a good idea to bring headphones and a music player, as it's unpredictable what sort of background noise is going to be going on during the writing session. All files to be critiqued on Sunday are available from the Blogspot links, which will be posted from the comments.

What we're about

We are passionate writers looking to meet other passionate writers. Our group loves to have fun and our atmosphere is warm, welcoming, playful - at times even silly. At the same time, when we get down to it, we offer sincere feedback, trying to improve each other's work. We believe that to give good feedback we have to tell the writer what worked well first, what moved us, what inspired us, what made us want to punch something or someone. Then, we talk about what can be improved. The environment is truthful, but safe.

Our hope is to create a nurturing community of writers who believe that writing is perhaps the most important thing in the world and who inspire one another to publish and to grow in their craft.

Join us.
