Wix Developer Platform #2: Design Systems & Production Testing
Details
// Please note: This meetup will be Offline (Bitan 27, Namal TLV). //
As we grow in Wix, we understand that to win; we need to invest a lot in building the best infrastructure and developer tools. We won't be able to meet our demands if we only add more developers. We must ensure that our developers have the best Infrastructure to provide businesses using Wix with all the features they need to grow their business.
We work daily on creating development tools and best practices for over 700 Javascript Developers at Wix (and counting!), focusing on strategic needs and dev velocity and reliability through innovation and research of cutting edge technologies.
// In this second meetup of the series, we'll focus on how we build and maintain our design systems and ensure our quality with almost no QA engineers - using production testing.
// Date: 15/08/2022

//Building the Wix Design Systems / Nitay Neeman
Building reusable but generic-enough UI components is a challenge. Mostly we don't even have the capacity and/or need to maintain a stunning in-house library, so reasonably, we consider using an external popular ready-made library. However, at Wix, we decided to build and maintain our design systems.
In this talk, we will cover the concept of "Design Systems" and explain the value they provide to a company on a scale of Wix and the workflow allowing us to maintain them efficiently.

//Production testing: uncompromising quality with zero manual QA / Nissan Gabay
In Wix, we love tests. All types and kinds, but most of all, E2E tests (End-to-End).
A good E2E test will allow you to verify that your system is working as expected, having no problems with integrations or communication with all of its subsystems, no deployment issues, and most importantly, no regression mess.
The problem is that creating a suitable testing environment that would represent a "live" and ever-changing production code as accurately as possible is hard, very hard!
Join us to hear how we handled this challenge by creating a framework that runs millions of tests daily in the production environment as part of our CI build flow.

Nissan is a development team leader at Wix's FED Infrastructure group. Our team creates tools and services that allow FED developers all around Wix to run their tests easily, fast, and with increased confidence in their code.
