Leo Igwe — Why Critical Thinking Matters in Africa

Critical thinking is necessary for growth, development and enlightenment in Africa. To combat religious extremism, ignorance, and superstition-based abuses, it is important to foster these cognitive skills in African schools.

Leo Igwe‘s organization, Critical Thinking Social Empowerment Foundation, is leading efforts to promote critical thinking skills in schools. It is campaigning for the introduction of the subject of critical thinking in primary and secondary schools. Leo Igwe is a board member of the Humanist Association of Nigeria and Humanists International. He holds a doctoral degree in religious studies from the University of Bayreuth in Germany and wrote his doctoral thesis on witchcraft accusations in Northern Ghana. Igwe directs the Advocacy for Alleged Witches, and Critical Thinking Social Empowerment Foundation.
