Custom Component Libraries with Angular and Storybook
- Mariah Avalos
Application development from beginning to end can be an arduous journey. Component libraries and design systems, or design language systems (DLS), are often used to help speed up this process, allowing developers and designers alike to better collaborate and reuse components and styles in their mockups and implementations. Teams often turn to preexisting component libraries and design language ecosystems such as Material or Bootstrap to achieve a quick, unified look and feel, as well as accessibility throughout their applications. However, it's oftentimes more beneficial to implement a custom-made component library built out from a personalized DLS. While the initial setup can be more time consuming than, say, installing a dependency, the outcome of having branded, fitted components can be far more appealing. And no components go unnoticed!
In this talk, we'll be discussing more in depth the benefits of and how we can utilize Angular libraries and Storybook to create your own Level AA conforming component library, explore minimal DLS practices for your applications, all followed by a simple demo with symlinking.
