Atlanta Screenwriters Anonymous

Meetups to start and/or finish your screenplay. An Atlanta film community where writers, actors, and filmmakers of all experience levels can gather to learn, have fun, and enjoy the company of other creatives in a supportive environment.

We are looking to host more in-person events these days but will hold online meetings to accommodate our members' and speakers' busy schedules.

Our critique group (currently on hiatus) has been meeting for several years and follows these simple rules:

-We take turns submitting our screenplays (or treatments and outlines) among group members.

-We only critique a maximum of 30 pages of a screenplay or 30 pages of a treatment or detailed outline every two weeks. The max is 30; if you want to submit less that's okay too.

-Those interested in participating must contact us at least one week in advance of a meeting and send your feedback in at least one day prior to the meeting to obtain the link to attend. You should then attend the meeting and offer verbal feedback of the current submission. At that point, you will be added to the front of the line and get feedback for your work at the next meeting. New members will only be put at the front of the line once. If you miss a meeting later (regardless of the reason) you will have to make up missed feedback submissions to return to your place in line. However, we tend to limit each critique group to 5 members, so the wait to submit has never been for an unreasonably long period of time.

-RSVP and contact organizer Chris Sartorius via the Meetup messaging system to request a copy of the current submission. Please provide your email address, so you can be sent a copy of the submission. Upon receipt of your written feedback, via email, at least one day prior to the meeting, you will be sent a link to attend the scheduled meeting. After attending your first meeting, you will be given a list of active critique group member emails and it will be your responsibility to distribute your work to those attending the next meeting when your work will be critiqued.

-It is recommended you copyright your work prior to any form of its distribution.

-Submissions should be in standard screenwriting format and saved to a PDF file. Cover pages are recommended and do not count towards the 30-page limit.

-Rough first drafts are not advised but the group is willing to critique them.

-If your screenplay contains graphic sexual, violent, or other material that might be considered objectionable by the motion picture industry ratings board, please include a warning about it at the beginning or on the cover page of the submission.
