Hi Organizers & Group

A number of things have been happening behind the scenes and I would
like to update you. Forsyth County is about to give our nonprofit the
ability to use probationers that need community service hours, the
ability to work for Forsyth Area Sports Teams ( FAST ) the nonprofit
that sponsors this meetup group.

Another non-profit Reachout America and FAST have been working together
on a few projects, more on that as it develops. A new organizer "Joy"
will be announcing some of the events we are working on with Reach Out
America. Expect big things from Joy, Reach Out is a national organization.

FAST in conjunction with Parent to Parent (governors council on
disability) and the BSA have been working to organize a special needs
cubscout pack. We have secured a meeting place, a charter, 5 boys and 5
parents in Cumming GA, and are growing. We are heading towards building
a "Therapy Challenge Camp" next summer, where even the therapists will
compete against each other to raise the bar of therapy services and to
take their programs into the woods for a week!

The inclusive (boys and girls) special needs scouting (cubscout)
program will be a very traditional scouting program taking many
activities from "The Book of Camp-Lore & Wood Craft" first published in
1920. These "real" camping skills will allow the challenged kids to
really "shine" when they mix with the regular scouts during camps. We
will also include such amazaing feats as building a crystal radio from
scratch. A skill that my 10 y/o with DS is close to mastering. If you
know of candidates for this challenged (scout) program that are in the
Forsyth County Area, let me know.

A Christmas play "Twas The Night Before Christmas" is already being
rehearsed by some challenged kids to be ready by Christmas. We need help
with this, especially the construction of a "dog pulled" sled for
Santa. (antlers on the dogs, jingle bells too, brakes on the sleigh!)

Just a reminder for everyone, please just post ideas that are actual
volunteer events and not classes. Also, please do not post events that
support businesses or nonprofits or that use greater than 15% - (25%
absolute max), of proceeds for expenses or operations.

This September, we will know if we are getting funded by the Combined
Federal Campaign, as we qualified almost a year ago.

If you live close to the Forsyth County Area and would like to be
involved in the organization of some of these events please let me know.

Also, if your email bounces or you turn it off, you have to be removed
as an organizer and eventually as a member.

Feel free to distribute this flyer for scouting (cubscouts) as you wish
or send the email along to anyone who may be interested.

Keep of the Great work!
