Alice will share how she uses ‘Expressive Arts Therapy’ and ‘Positive Psychology’ with adults and teens in expressive arts therapy groups at the Aleutian Pribilof Islands Association (https://www.apiai.org/) in Anchorage and in community workshops.

She strongly believes in the power of art in healing, and has used it with victims of domestic violence, youth in foster care, and individuals in substance use treatment.

BIO:
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and Registered Expressive Arts Therapist. My journey started as an art student when I met a Music Therapist. She helped me realize that art could be meaningful beyond personal expression and the museum/art gallery scene. That moment of clarity helped me develop my approach to therapy.

Another moment happened at a women’s shelter. I was talking with residents about starting a support group. A woman’s thirteen-year-old daughter piped up:

“Could we please have a group where people Do Not come out crying?”

I took that to heart. To this day I incorporate Person Centered Therapy, Acceptance Commitment Therapy, and Positive Psychology into my practice of Expressive Arts Therapy.

My journey has been one of hope and gratitude. I value the breadth of my experience and bring it to others with gratitude.
