Breaking the Anchor
Details
A strong anchor in your opponent's home board or on his bar point is a powerful asset. It is so powerful the decision to run off the anchor is critical.
- Lead in the race argues for running before you get squeezed. Trailing in the race argues for holding and waiting for a shot.
- If you can make a constructive play stay on the anchor. Leave the anchor if your position would breakup.
- Break the anchor if your checker can land in a safe place.
- Keep the anchor if you have one or two stragglers behind the anchor. Keep the point until you can move the stragglers forward.
