Tawharanui Trundle

Details

Greetings Everyone - Tawharanui Regional Park is one of the gems in the collection of Auckland parks. It is a predator free peninsula and is always great for a wander. It hosts some of our region's most beautiful white sand beaches, rolling pastures, shingled bays, native coastal forest and regenerating wetlands. And if we are lucky we may also have some close encounters with rarely seen native wildlife (birds).

Let's do a big loop, out to the end at Takatu Point, back along the southern side all the way to the lagoon, up and over the small hill to the beach on the northern side and back to the car park.

It will be an easy hike this week. Our highest point is just 91m, the tracks will be well formed, a gentle trundle compared to my last two hikes. Length 14-16km. We'll be sticking to the tracks as the tides are not favourable for a coastal route.

On our drive back to Auckland we will stop in at the Matakana Village Pub for some well deserved refreshments.

Duration: About 5 hours hike including stops.
Distance: Approx 14-16 km.
Difficulty: 2.5 on our 1-5 scale for day hikes.
Low tide: N/A
