Join us as we walk the Pakuranga Rotary Path and Bucklands Beach Path, ending at Musick Point. We will be walking next to the Panmure Basin and Tamaki River - amazing views over the harbour, towards Rangitoto and Browns Island. This is a one-way walk and we will return to our cars via public bus.
Walking time: 4 - 4.5hrs including stops (depends on group fitness)
Walking distance: 15km
Grade: Level 2.5 on our 1-5 scale of difficulty. This is mainly due to distance, no technical difficulty.
Important note: If you are driving or are a passenger in a car, you will need to have either an AT Hop card with $3 min credit on or a standard pay-wave card for the bus trip back. The 712 bus will take us approximately 30mins to return to our starting point and costs $3.
Before 9am - Arrive at the carpark, 30 Tamaki Bay Road.
No toilets so suggest stopping at Pakuranga Plaza before you arrive.
9.00am - Start hiking
11:00am - Morning tea break at Half Moon Bay. There is a cafe here where you can buy a hot or cold drink to takeaway.
11:15am - Resume hiking
1.30pm - Approx finish time, catch public bus from Clovelly Road back to Pakuranga Plaza, 10 minute walk back to our cars
Mix of pavement, boardwalk and beach walking.
Mostly flat - the last section up to Musick Point is slightly uphill.
Led by Helen KF (Mob: 021 0282 3600) and Mike F (027 431 9054)
Bring - Normal hiking gear - and have warm base layers like merino or thermal clothes on or in your pack in case of bad weather, a raincoat, hat, sunscreen, strong footwear with great grip. Food - Bring your own lunch, snacks, and enough water etc.
**Sunscreen and water are very important for this walk, as a large portion of the walking is out in the open and not covered by bush.
Suggest carpooling. Please comment when you rsvp whether you need a lift / can offer lifts, which part of Auckland and your mobile number. It’s up to you to arrange this among yourselves. Consider the distance you travel and how much petrol money is appropriate. e.g. from the North Shore I would suggest $10 per passenger, further away maybe $15. If you are a passenger please either bring cash for your driver or make arrangements to pay them via bank transfer.
You could also catch public transport to our starting point and head straight home when we arrive at Bucklands Beach.
If you can no longer attend please update your RSVP immediately to allow others to join. If you cancel within 24hrs of the event or don't turn up this will be treated as a 'no show'. 3 no shows will affect your attendance at future events.
No guests - if you have friends who want to join please get them to join Auckland Outdoors and RSVP.
We look forward to sharing this hike with you :)
