Ambury Farm & Park, Mangere Mountain walk

RSVPs will open on Saturday 2nd August.

Graded 2 on the group's 1 - 5 scale. Approx 15km walking, some on flat gravel paths but also a couple of steep challenging hills going up and down the volcano crater.

Lots of farm animals to see along the way as well as lovely views over the harbour.

Here's the plan:

9.30am - Everyone to be ready to start hiking, start point 143 Wallace Road. There is phone reception so if you get lost please call me on 021 0282 3600

9.45am - Start hiking, part of the regional park and then across to Mangere Mountain for a hike up and around the crater. Time to enjoy the views across Auckland.

12.00pm - Lunch break (Mike and Aria will meet us here)

12.30pm - Continue hiking around the park including coastal walk then back to the main farm area to see the animals

2.00pm - Anticipated finish time

Bring - Normal hiking gear - the tracks are fairly well-maintained so you can wear running shoes with good grip instead of hiking boots although now we are getting into winter there will be mud. Hat, rain jacket and warm layers to wear or keep in your pack. The summit and coastal sections can be exposed to the wind so make sure you come prepared. A hiking pole is useful for some of the steeper sections.

Also, bring a change of clothes and footwear as you are likely to get muddy.

Food - Bring your own lunch, snacks, and enough water etc

Suggest carpooling. Please comment when you rsvp whether you need a lift / can offer lifts, which part of Auckland and your mobile number. It’s up to you to arrange this among yourselves.

Put 143 Wallace Road into your GPS. Park Along the road and meet at the small grass reserve opposite the horse paddock

Please bring $10 cash for your drivers or make arrangements to pay them via bank transfer.

No guests. If you have friends who would like to come get them to join Auckland Outdoors and RSVP.

Donation - Due to increased Meetup subscription costs we ask all members to contribute $1 or$2 for this hike. You can either bring a gold coin on the day or make the donation direct to our dedicated bank account:

If your situation changes and you can no longer attend please update your RSVP immediately. This is to allow other members to join as the group will be restricted to 40 members . If you drop out within 24hrs of the event or don't turn up this will be treated as a 'no show'. 3 'no shows' will mean that you removed from the group for 6 months. This rule is in place to be fair to others in the group.
