Join us for 2 amazing hikes in the South-Eastern area of Auckland.

Waharau Regional Park - this is the first time that Auckland Outdoors is doing this particular loop track.
Waharau Regional Park
Walking Time: Approx 3.5 - 4hrs (depending on the group's fitness)
Distance: 10.5km
**Please note the first 1.5 hours of this track is very steep uphill. If you aren't sure whether you can walk uphill for 1.5 hours we suggest that you wait for another hike.

Tapakanga Regional Park - we haven't walked here since pre-Covid times. We will either be walking the Coastal loop track if the tide is on our side, or else the Farm loop track.
Tāpapakanga Regional Park
Walking Time: Approx 2hrs
Distance: 6 - 7.5km (depending on which track we do)

Medium level of difficulty (Grade 3), 1 small stream crossing 30mins into the first hike but you should be able to keep your feet dry unless we have had a lot of rain in the days leading up to the hike.

Led by Helen KF. (mob 021 0282 3600) and Mike F. (027 431 9054)

Here’s the plan:
Before 9.00am - Meet at the large grass roundabout within Waharau Regional Park. Put 1748 East Coast Road, Whakatiwai into your GPS and then follow the main road all the way in until you reach the grass roundabout area.
Waharau and Whakatīwai Regional Park - roundabout is shown as white circle in this map.

9.00am - Start first hike
1pm - End first hike

1pm - Drive to Tapakanga Regional Park. Put 95 Deerys Road, Orere Point into your GPS and follow the park's signs to the Beachfront Campsite.

1.15pm - Lunch break on the beach
1.45pm – Start second hike
3.45pm - End second hike

Bring - Normal hiking gear - the tracks are mostly gravel but steps can get slippery after rain, and the second hike involves walking across farmland so be prepared for mud if it's been raining recently. A hat, raincoat and warm top are useful as this is Auckland and the weather can change fast. Swimming gear and towel if you want to swim. NO JEANS!
Food - Bring your own lunch, snacks, and enough water (min 2l) etc

Suggest carpooling. Please comment when you rsvp whether you need a lift / can offer lifts, which part of Auckland and your mobile number. It’s up to you to arrange this among yourselves. Please bring $30 cash for your drivers or make arrangements to pay them via direct bank transfer.

If you can no longer attend please update your RSVP immediately to allow others to join. If you pull out at the last minute (After 5pm night before) or don't turn up you will be listed as a No Show. 3 No Shows will mean you cannot join an event for 6 months. This rule is in place to be fair to other members.

Be sure to read all the details before you RSVP. No guests, please get them to join our group.

Donation - Due to increased Meetup subscription costs we ask all members to contribute $2 for this hike. You can either bring a gold coin on the day or make the donation direct to our dedicated bank account:
Helen Kerslake-Forbes 06-0998-0909890-03

Any donation money remaining after our 6 monthly subscription is paid will go towards safety gear for the group.

We look forward to sharing this hike with you.
Helen & Mike
