Walking Time just over 3hrs plus 30mins for breaks/lunch.
Distance: 9.5km

A great hike around Wenderholm Regional Park. There’s some amazing plant and bird life to enjoy…here’s the plan…

Arrive before 9am at the main carpark in Wenderholm Regional Park. We will meet on the grass area in front of the large toilet block next to the carpark.

9.00am – start hiking around the peninsula via Te Akeake track then head uphill and around the park via the Perimeter Track.

11:00am – have morning tea at Kokoru Bay.

11.20pm – continue hiking Perimeter track and across to Vin's track.

1.00pm – approx. finishing time

No guests. If you have friends who would like to come get them to join Auckland Outdoors and RSVP.

Donation - Due to increased Meetup subscription costs we ask all members to contribute $2 for this hike. You can either bring a gold coin on the day or make the donation direct to our dedicated bank account:

Helen Kerslake-Forbes 06-0998-0909890-03

Any donation money remaining after our 6 monthly subscription is paid will go towards safety gear (including first aid supplies) for the group.

Driving instructions from Auckland central: I find the easiest way to get to Wenderholm is to take exit 394 (Orewa) and follow the signs to Waiwera. The turn-off for Wenderholm is on the right just past Waiwera bridge as you head up the hill. Alternatively, you can stay on SH1 through the tunnel and turn around at Puhoi to follow the old State Highway 1 to Hibiscus Coast Highway. The Wenderholm turn-off will be on your left as you head down the hill. *Please note, by travelling through the tunnel you will incur toll costs each way.

Option afterwards to stop for refreshments at Coast in Orewa [Coast – Bites and Brew Orewa – Bar & Restaurant (coastorewa.co.nz)](https://www.coastorewa.co.nz/)

Bring - Normal hiking gear - warm base layers like merino or thermal clothes on or in your pack in case of bad weather, a raincoat, strong footwear with great grip. Running shoes will NOT give you good enough grip for some of the downhill sections. No Jeans.

Food - Bring your own snacks, fruit and enough water etc

Suggest carpooling. Please comment when you rsvp whether you need a lift / can offer lifts, which part of Auckland and your mobile number. It’s up to you to arrange this among yourselves. Bring $15 cash to give your driver towards petrol costs.

Be sure to read all the details before you RSVP. If you can no longer attend please update your RSVP immediately to allow other people to join? If you cancel at the last minute (i.e. night before or on the day) or don't turn up this will be treated as a 'no show'. 3 no shows will mean you cannot join a hike with the group for 6 months.

I look forward to sharing this walk with you all!

Helen
