Join us for a relaxing walk from St Heliers to Panmure following a mix of paths beside the Tāmaki River and passing through Tahuna Torea nature reserve. This is a one-way walk and we will return to our cars via public bus.

Walking time: 3hrs including stops (depends on group fitness)
Walking distance: 13km
Grade: Level 2 on our 1-5 scale of difficulty

Important note: If you are driving or are a passenger in a car, you will need to have either an AT Hop card with $3 min credit on or a standard pay-wave card for the bus trip back. The 744 bus will take us approximately 30mins to return to St Heliers and costs $3.

Before 9am - Arrive at St Heliers, 6 Cliff Road. Meet at the kids playground. There are toilets available. *Please allow plenty of time to find a carpark if driving.
9.00am - Start hiking
10:30am - Morning tea break at Tahuna Torea nature reserve. If it's low tide we can venture out to the sandspit.
10:45am - Resume hiking
12.00pm - Approx finish time, catch public bus from Panmure back to St Heliers
Afterwards - Cold drinks & snacks at Moreton's Moretons Bar & Restaurant | Beachfront Bistro in St Heliers (optional)

Mix of pavement, boardwalk and gravel paths. Mostly flat but a few short uphill sections.

Led by Helen KF (Mob: 021 0282 3600) and Mike F (027 431 9054)

Bring - Normal hiking gear - and have warm base layers like merino or thermal clothes on or in your pack in case of bad weather, a raincoat, hat, sunscreen, strong footwear with great grip. Food - Bring your own lunch, snacks, and enough water etc.

**Sunscreen and water are very important for this walk, as a large portion of the walking is out in the open and not covered by bush.

Suggest carpooling. Please comment when you rsvp whether you need a lift / can offer lifts, which part of Auckland and your mobile number. It’s up to you to arrange this among yourselves. Consider the distance you travel and how much petrol money is appropriate. e.g. from the North Shore I would suggest $10 per passenger, further away maybe $15. If you are a passenger please either bring cash for your driver or make arrangements to pay them via bank transfer.

You could also catch public transport to our starting point and head straight home when we arrive at Panmure.

Donation - Due to increased Meetup subscription costs we ask all members to contribute $1 or $2 for this hike. You can either bring a gold coin on the day or make the donation direct to our dedicated bank account:
Helen Kerslake-Forbes 06-0998-0909890-03

Any donation money remaining after our 6 monthly subscription is paid will go towards safety gear for the group.

If you can no longer attend please update your RSVP immediately to allow others to join. If you cancel within 24hrs of the event or don't turn up this will be treated as a 'no show'. 3 no shows will affect your attendance at future events.

No guests - if you have friends who want to join please get them to join Auckland Outdoors and RSVP.

We look forward to sharing this hike with you :)
Helen & Mike
