Te Auaunga Oakley Creek Walkway (Waterview)

We will be walking the Howlett Walkway adjacent to the North-Western motorway and then cross over to the Te Auaunga Oakley Creek Walkway, before returning to our start point with a half hour street walk.

Distance - 8.5km
Walking time - approx 2hrs
Led by Helen KF and Mike F

Graded 1.5 on our 1-5 scale. Won't bother regular hikers. A good opportunity if you are new to hiking to come out with the group and see what we are about.

Mixture of concrete and dirt paths. We will take a short side-trip to the Sanctuary Mahi Whenua Gardens and the Oakley Creek Waterfall.

Here's the plan:
Before 9.30am - Meet at Kuaka Park, 40 Oakley Ave (there is plenty of street parking and toilets available)
11:30am - 12pm - Estimated finish time (depends on fitness of the group and how many stops we need to take)

Bring - Normal hiking gear - you can wear trail running shoes or sturdy walking shoes for this walk, hiking boots not required. A hat, sunscreen, raincoat and warm top. NO JEANS!

Food - Bring your own snacks and enough water etc.

Suggest carpooling. Please comment when you rsvp whether you need a lift / can offer lifts, which part of Auckland and your mobile number. It’s up to you to arrange this among yourselves. If you are getting a lift from someone please give them a contribution towards petrol, amount depends on how far you travel. You could also catch the bus from your home to Great North Road and walk to the meeting point.

Donation - Due to increased Meetup subscription costs we ask all members to contribute $2 for this hike. You can either bring a gold coin on the day or make the donation direct to our dedicated bank account:

Any donation money remaining after our 6 monthly subscription is paid will go towards safety gear for the group.

If you can no longer attend please update your RSVP immediately to allow others to join. If you pull out after 5pm the night before the hike or don't turn up you will be listed as a No Show. 3 No Shows will trigger a 6 month ban from the group.
