Urban Walk at Orakei Basin Walkway & Kepa Bush Reserve

Summer has Finally Arrived - Let's Explore the Beautiful Orakei Basin Walkway and the Kepa Bush Reserve which is all part of the Te Ara Ki Uta Ki Walkway !

This is one of Auckland's most beautiful Urban Walking Hiking ADVENTURES worthy of sharing quality time outside together on Saturday December 20th.

We get to see all sorts of scenery, and maybe a horse...perfect for leisurely walkers and anyone interested in photography..and learning something about the things we see along the way .

This easy-to-moderate trail offers breathtaking views of the basin, lush greenery, and native birdlife. It's the perfect escape for nature lovers and those wanting to get a little exercise in a beautiful setting.

We'll walk through picturesque wetlands, (no wet shoes tho) admire the views of the city, and take in the peaceful surroundings. Whether you're a seasoned hiker or just looking for a leisurely walk, this is a fantastic way to connect with nature and meet new people and familiar faces now that winter is well and truly over ..and Christmas is almost here .

Details:

• 🏞️ Route: Orakei Basin Walkway & Kepa Bush Reserve and some Urban Pathways.. (approx. 7 km loop)
• 🕒 When: Meet and Greet is 9.:30am on Saturday December 20th , 2025
• 🌍 Where: Meet at the Orakei Green Reserve opposite 206 Upland Road, Remuera.
• 🚶‍♂️ Difficulty: Easy to moderate. A few short steeper sections of 5 mins of huffing and puffing. If you're reasonably fit and active; you'll be okay today.

We will stop lots to rest and take pictures and talk about the things we see along the way like trees and plants and birds and learn something about the early history here.

Not suitable for fast-paced walkers or any one in a hurry.

We will aim to be finished by 3pm.

LIMITED ATTENDANCE TO 45 Auckland Social Events Members .

• 💧 What to bring: Good strong grippy shoes, outdoor walking clothes, plenty of fresh water ( at least 2l) , lunch and snacks...and sunscreen and a sunhat. Hiking poles optional. I always carry mine. Helps the knees and lower back .

Carry everything you Need for the Days Activities in a Small backpack or something similar.

No Dogs or Smokers or Children or Guests today. Please get your friends to join us on the website.

Organise this amongst yourselves prior to this Event when you RSVP. Add your Mobile number and Area where you live and contact each other. Give your Driver some money towards petrol costs.

Be sure you have a clear recognizable portrait photo of yourself if you’re offering rides or wanting one.
