What we’re about
We are a group of individuals who are interested in learning how to use Stoic Philosophy to not only manage but excel against difficulties that we all invariably face in the modern world.
This group was started to meet and learn from other people who are studying the brilliant, insightful ideas of Marcus Aurelius, Seneca, Epictetus, and other philosophers.

See all- On Quantums of EmotionThe Good Home Mt Eden, Auckland
It wouldn't be a discussion about stoicism without the term 'emotion' getting thrown around. Well, now it's emotions' time in the spotlight!
At this meetup, we will have an open discussion about the role and importance of emotions in our lives. If you haven't attended before, please come along and join in as much, or as little, as you like.
The questions below will help guide our discussion:
- In modernity, stoicism has been synonymised with emotional suppression. Although we may disagree, is there a reason why this conflation took hold?
- Could the logical conclusion of stoicism be that it leads to an emotionally neutral life? If true, do we really want to live in an emotionally neutral world?
- Just because humans can have emotions and be emotive, does it mean we should?
- Are positive emotions better than negative emotions?
- What about emotions displayed at the extremes of the continuum, positive or negative?
- In some cultures, showing emotion is a good thing. In others, not so much. Who is right, who is wrong?
- When does emotion, positive or negative, lead us wrong? When does it lead us right?
- Should some levels of emotion be allowed, or should they all be channelled and overcome?
- What is the 'right' quantum of emotion?
