Kia ora, friends 🧡

We're back with the second screening in our series exploring how BIPOC experience horror not just as fear, but as history, survival, and truth-telling.

This time: Mārama (2025), directed by Toa Stappard.

In 1859, a young Māori woman is summoned from Aotearoa to Victorian England, where she discovers a horrific colonial heritage woven into the very walls of a stately manor. What begins as a governess position becomes something far more powerful. As she uncovers the crimes of those who devastated her whānau, she embraces her Matakite powers and transforms into Mārama, a force of resistance and justice.

As director, Toa Stappard says: "The history of most Indigenous peoples' colonisation is a horror story."

🎥 When: Tuesday 22nd October. Doors open at 7:00 p.m., film starts at 7:30 p.m.
