About us
Auckland Underwater Rugby is New Zealand’s competitive underwater rugby community, based in Auckland.
Underwater Rugby is a fast, physical, three-dimensional team sport played at the bottom of a swimming pool. It combines swimming, diving, teamwork, strategy, and full-contact gameplay in a way that feels completely different from any sport on land.
This group is for anyone interested in discovering the sport, joining training sessions, meeting the Auckland Underwater Rugby team, or becoming part of a growing community of players in New Zealand. Beginners are welcome, and you don’t need previous underwater rugby experience — just confidence in the water, a willingness to learn, and a good attitude.
AUWR brings together local and international players, from complete newcomers to athletes competing in tournaments across New Zealand, Australia, and overseas. Beyond training, we are also a social club built around teamwork, discipline, friendship, and a shared love for an unusual but amazing sport.
