What we're about

This group exists to help people get together to play boardgames in Auckland, New Zealand.

What sort of boardgames? Well, just about any game that is played around the table from traditional family type games to Eurogames, from tile games to card games, and anything fun that is in between.

The goal is to enjoy ourselves so join up and do so

Even More May Tuesday Night Boardgames

Needs a location

Tēnā koe

Come along this Tuesday evening and join us in playing boardgames. Tuesdays are a really good time to play boardgames. We know this because our boardgaming group has been meeting on the second, fourth, and when they occur, fifth Tuesdays of each month since 2nd November 2004. So why don’t you come along and keep this happening?

We are meeting in person again from 7 pm until 10 pm at the Western Springs Garden Community Hall opposite Western Springs Park at 956 Great North Road. The following public health and venue rules will apply:

  • Masks must be worn inside.
  • Only four people will play per table to ensure 1 metre distancing.
  • Tables will be more widely placed than usual to ensure 2 metre distancing.
  • Weather permitting, the doors will be kept open to ensure adequate ventilation.

We provide an informal, safe, and friendly space for the regular playing of board games by folk of all ages and types. The games range from light hearted family games to cunning games of strategy. We play games like Settlers of Catan, Isle of Cats, Carcassonne, Power Grid, Ticket to Ride, Azul, Agricola, Babylonia, Tsuro, Bohnanza, Root, Puerto Rico, Lost Cities, Patchwork, Saboteur, One Night Ultimate Werewolf, and Wingspan, amongst many others. But don’t worry if you don’t know how to play a particular game, someone will teach you.

Please bring along games and fellow gamers. We ask for a $4 contribution towards our venue hire and maintaining a small games library. This can be paid in person by cash on the night or deposited to bank a/c[masked]. First time visitors are not asked to contribute the $4.

There are three effective ways to keep up to date with when we are meeting.
There is a Meetup group

There is also a Facebook group

Guidelines and additional information.
1. Keep it safe and fun. People of a variety of ages and dispositions come along to enjoy playing board games. Please do the same and keep your behaviour welcoming and friendly.
2. A contribution of $4 is requested. This assists with paying the venue hire, and maintaining a small games library. If you wish to borrow a game between meetings, there’s a book to record the game, your name and contact details. Just bring the game back to the next meet.
3. People bring along their valuable games for others to share - please take care when playing their games and ask permission before using one! It is the responsibility of everyone who plays a game to assist with packing it up and making sure that no pieces are missing.
4. You are welcome to bring along food and non-alcoholic drinks. Please take your rubbish with you and leave everything clean. If you are there at the end of a game, please help to pack up games, tables and chairs.
5. When choosing "one last game", please remember that we need to vacate promptly at 10pm due to our hire agreement. Also, please remember that those locking up may have family to care for and work to do on Wednesday morning.
6. Generally these have not been problems, but it's worth stating explicitly as new people come along.
7. Please continue to spread the word and invite others to join us.

Back on: North Shore Board Games Group

Needs a location

Note: Now that things are heading back to normal, we've reverted to the old start time of 7 pm for those that can't stay as late or want to get a slightly longer game in.

We play modern board games in Browns Bay every Wednesday. The games range from the daft and frantic to the slow and thoughtful, from the 10 minute "filler" up to the 3-4 hour head scratcher depending on your mood. Games are mainly arranged on an adhoc basis and taught on the night so don't worry if you haven't played anything like this before.

Our main method of organisation is the FaceBook page, but we thought we'd cross post here in case anyone wasn't aware of us. Hope to see you there.

If you've not been before, the right hand entrance to the Service Centre is the one you want and we'll usually be in the large room on the top floor, accessible by lift or stairs. If we're somewhere else (very rare these days) there'll usually be a whiteboard in the foyer saying which room we're in.
